Luis Suarez and Arturo Vidal were not included in the Barcelona squad for a friendly match against Gimnastic de Tarragona. According to Marca, coach Ronald Koeman used 25 players for the first friendly match before the 2020/21 season.
Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, Philippe Coutinho or Antoine Griezmann are all ready for the match against Gimnastic de Tarragona. Suarez and Vidal are absent despite having trained fully with Barca in the past 2 weeks.
According to Marca, Suarez and Vidal are negotiating with the new club to say goodbye to the Camp Nou. So Coach Koeman dismissed Suarez and Vidal from the plan for the 2020/21 season.
Newcomer Miralem Pjanic was also absent. The former Juventus midfielder arrived in Barca less than a week after passing a health check. So Pjanic was not ready to play the friendly match early in the season. Young talent Ansu Fati sidelined due to injury.
Coach Koeman spent 2 weeks working with new students. The new Barca captain said he was satisfied with the progress of the Barca players’ training.
“Barca are training well with high intensity. I am satisfied with what the whole team has shown in the past two weeks. All players have been positive. They are strengthened and tactical coming soon,” said the coach. Koeman told Sports.
Messi and Coutinho focus later than teammates. However, both stars showed high determination.
During Barca’s break, Messi and Coutinho still went to the training ground to speed up the preparation for the new season. Coach Koeman announced Coutinho will have a chance to show up in the 2020/21 season. Because of this, the Brazilian star is determined to practice.
Before signing with Barca, Griezmann was with the No.7 shirt for four years at Real Sociedad since the 2010/11 season. Moving to Atletico Madrid, the French striker still chooses this shirt number. He also won the 2018 World Cup with France’s number 7 shirt.
